Our Story
Tillage is the realization of a long-held dream for owner Kara Johnson. When the doors opened in 2019 as a full-service boutique plant shop, Tillage quickly became known as the destination for high-quality potted plants. After years of operating a brick-and-mortar store, Kara felt called to evolve the business into a marketplace, one that would welcome thoughtfully curated goods into the Tillage brand.
Today, Tillage has grown into something far more expansive than a plant shop. While plants remain an essential part of our identity, they are now offered alongside pieces chosen to bring character, texture, and personality into the spaces where we live and work.
Kara’s eye for distinctive finds was shaped early on. She grew up watching her grandmother collect beautiful, storied treasures from estates sales, and often (reluctantly at the time), tagged along with her parents on visits to antique shops where they uncovered one-of-a-kind pieces for their home.
Across generations, both horticultural know-how and an appreciation for quality vintage have been passed through the Johnson family. Like her grandmother, Kara can spot craftsmanship at a glance, and she delights in giving playful, unusual, and memorable items a second life. Our home décor is seasoned and soulful, carrying with it the stories of those who have owned it before.
